TRANSLATION

Translations can be carried out with or without certification by a court interpreter, depending on your needs. A certified translation bears the seal and signature of the court interpreter, which guarantees that the translated text complies fully with the original document in terms of content and style (to the maximum extent possible). A translation certified by an interpreter is considered an official document and can be used as such in legal transactions. Below are examples of the types of documents for which you may need a certified translation:

INTERPRETATION

Interpretation can be simultaneous, consecutive or whispered, depending on specific requirements and/or needs. Simultaneous interpretation is a highly specialized field and requires additional education and training. It is most suitable for larger gatherings such as conferences or seminars.

Interpreting services which I am able to provide are consecutive and whispered interpreting and to help you determine which best suits your needs below is some more information on each of these two types of interpreting.

Consecutive interpreting takes place in such a way that the interpreter interprets the spoken text after the speaker and is more suitable for smaller groups of people in situations such as meetings, video calls, etc. The advantage is that there is no need for technical equipment, while the potential downside is that the interpreting process itself takes longer.

In case of whispered interpreting (or chuchotage) the interpreter sits next to, between or behind the participants and literally whispers what is being said to the listener's ear and is most suitable for up to two or three participants.

Did you know that you may also need a court interpreter if you are marrying a person of another nationality? When a marriage ceremony is conducted in front of the registrar, we court interpreters also take part in such happy events and do so with honor.

PROOFREADING

Proofreading usually involves correction of grammatical and spelling mistakes, and in communication with the author it is also possible to intervene or rather improve upon the language and style of a text.

A term often used in the translation industry that involves intervention into a given text is localization. What that means is adapting the material to target audiences by addressing cultural components and making the material more familiar to end users.
